GENDER INEQUALITY IN MUSIC.
Recent research has found out that women are "chronically disadvantaged in the music industry" in terms of not only who makes it?,but also who makes the decisions?
My personal opinion towards this is that women have a harder time making it big in the music industry worldwide than men do,but why?its simply because women are seen more so to be eye candy than seen for their musical talents itself.
Looking at the top 20 songs from 2010-2017 from various websites, and the artiste who made the song big,to distinguish if men or women were more popular than one another over a short or long period of time
2010- 5 female artistes in top 20
2011- 8 female artiste
2012 - 9 female artistes
2013 - 10 female artistes
2014 - 9 female artistes
2015 - 6 female artistes
2016 - 8 female artistes
2017 - 6 female artistes
In another survey/ interview,I was able to some music lovers their favourite band/singer/musician . Out of 40 favourites, 30 were male bands/singers/musicians, 5 were female singers and 5 were mixed male and female singers/bands/musicians.
It is sad to think that female artistes have it harder in the music industry than men simply because well..............."they are women.
